Stripe Connect for Creators: Setup, Payouts, and What to Expect

How Connect onboarding, holds, and payout timing work for marketplace sellers—and how to keep buyers informed while money moves.

Klavio Editorial

Klavio uses Stripe Connect so sellers receive payouts directly while the platform handles compliance, risk, and fee collection. Understanding Connect upfront prevents surprise delays and awkward buyer conversations.

Why Marketplaces Use Stripe Connect

Connect splits payments: buyers pay through Stripe Checkout; funds flow to the seller’s connected account after platform fees and any holds. You stay the merchant of record for your buyers while Stripe manages identity and banking rails.

Onboarding Checklist

Legal business details

Use accurate name, address, and tax information. Mismatches are the top cause of delayed verification.

Bank account

Connect a account you control. Payouts cannot land in incompatible account types for your country.

Product examples

Be ready to describe what you sell. Stripe may request additional context for certain categories.

Payout Timing and Holds

Seller funds may be held briefly for fraud prevention, buyer protection, and delivery confirmation. Payouts can release when the buyer confirms receipt or after a defined window—whichever comes first, subject to Stripe and risk review. See our Terms for the plain-language summary.

Fees: Platform, Processing, and Transparency

Klavio’s platform fee is 3% plus 25p per paid transaction unless otherwise shown at signup. Payment processing fees are charged at cost. Display pricing on your listing so buyers never feel surprised at checkout.

What to Tell Buyers

Buyers care about access, not Connect jargon. Tell them: what they get, when they get it, how refunds work, and how to reach you. Keep Stripe details in seller docs, not on the hero line.

Common Issues and Fixes

Payout paused? Check Connect dashboard for required actions. Chargebacks? Respond with delivery proof quickly. Currency mismatch? Ensure listing currency matches your Connect account capabilities.
